Three boys under the age of 14 were arrested Saturday after deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office received reports that the fourth and fifth grade building at New Hope Elementary School had been vandalized.
The three boys — two 13-year-olds and one 11-year-old — are accused of breaking into the building and ransacking several classrooms, according to an LCSO press release. Law enforcement reported there was damage to computers, projectors and furniture.
Lowndes County School District Superintendent Lynn Wright said the building the boys broke into was being used for storage, and that school officials are still trying to determine the cost of the damage. He added school officials aren’t sure how the boys broke in.
“It’s regrettable,” Wright said. “We’re trying to make sure how they were able to get in and make sure nothing like that happens again.”
The press release added school officials helped identify the three juveniles. Their cases will be held in Lowndes County Youth Court.
