A Columbus woman was arrested after she allegedly shot a 56-year-old man in the chest.
Henrietta Maria Squires, 53, of Sylvan Road, has been charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence.
Columbus police responded to Sylvan Road shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday in response to what they believed was a burglar alarm, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. Squires and the victim had gotten into an argument and Squires reportedly shot him.
The victim walked across the street under his own power to a neighbor’s house where he called 911, the press release said. He was concious and talking to police when they arrived at the neighbor’s home. He was taken first to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and later airlifted to a hospital in Tupelo for trauma care.
The press release said the shooting happened the night before the couple was scheduled to move to another city.
Squires has been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
