Authorities are seeking a suspect in a high-speed chase that began in Lowndes County and ended in Oktibbeha County Friday afternoon.
A deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Highway 82 westbound near the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, according to Lt. Darrell Nabors with LCSO. Jamal Halbert allegedly led the deputy on a 100 mph chase in a black Ford Mustang through Lowndes County before stopping on Robinson Road in Oktibbeha County and fleeing on foot, he said.
A passenger in the vehicle remained inside and was later released, Nabors said. A form of identification left in the car identified Halbert as the driver, but Halbert has not been taken into custody as of press time.
Halbert will be charged with felony fleeing and eluding, Nabors said.
