Fire destroyed a home in Lowndes County on Elm Drive near the Elm Lake Golf Course early Friday morning.
Lowndes County volunteer firefighters arrived on the scene around midnight. Lowndes County Fire District 5 Chief Joseph Stoll, whose station responded to the call, said the cause of the fire is still unknown. The home was empty and there have been no injuries reported.
Homeowners Anika Mitchell Perkins, Mississippi University for Women’s executive director of university relations, and husband Pete told The Dispatch their family was out of town at the time of the fire. They will return this weekend to begin assessing the damage.
“We’re focusing on the positives at this point,” Anika Mitchell Perkins said. “We have received so many calls and texts from everyone and we’re so grateful. We know the Lord will provide.”
