A Hamilton man who has been on the run from law enforcement since Sunday is now in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Officers with the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Mississippi Highway Patrol found Kristopher Lee Kellum, 37, in a storage unit in the Hamilton area at about 7:45 a.m. today, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Greg Wright said. He was arrested without incident, but Wright said he did have a firearm when officers found him.
A state trooper stopped to assist a stranded motorist on Highway 45 at South Perkins Road at about 9 p.m. Sunday. The motorist, later identified as Kellum, who had an active warrant in Lowndes County for a felon in possession of a weapon charge, fled the scene on foot.
Wright said Kellum’s mother, who lives in Biloxi, had also contacted LCSO because Kellum had allegedly posted threats against family members on Facebook and those relatives were “very scared of what he was capable of doing.”
Officers received an anonymous tip that Kellum was hiding at a storage unit complex, Wright said, and set up perimeter this morning before conducting a door-to-door search.
Kellum is being booked on the firearm possession charge, but other charges could be added, Wright said.
