The suspect in a murder/arson case from North Carolina is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office detained James Christopher Gizzi, 17, and his brother John Gizzi, 19, at a north Columbus residence Monday, according to a LCSO press release. Deputies from Craven County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina had asked local law enforcement to be on the lookout for a stolen Toyota Camry and a possible suspect in the murder.
The LCSO press release also included information from a North Carolina news station indicating James Gizzi is wanted in connection with the murder of his grandmother, 68-year-old Marjorie Thompson. According to the news report, Thompson was found dead at her home in Jasper, North Carolina, Monday morning when local authorities responded to a fire at the home. James Gizzi was living with Thompson.
John Gizzi lives at 1301 First St. N., in Columbus, where deputies arrested both him and his brother.
James Gizzi is not facing charges in Mississippi, according to the LCSO press release, though the North Carolina news report said he faces felony larceny of a motor vehicle. John Gizzi is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle here in Lowndes County.
Both brothers are in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. John Gizzi’s bond has not been set.
