Nancy Carpenter of Columbus received the 2017 Mississippi Tourism Association Member of the Year Award presented by The Mississippi Tourism Association (MTA). The award ceremony was held during the Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the Oxford Conference Center Sept. 23-25.
Carpenter is the Executive Director of Visit Columbus. Her passion for tourism, coupled with her experience, made her the perfect candidate for this outstanding honor. Named Mississippi Business Woman of the Year in 2017 by the Mississippi Business Journal, she has made it her business and her mission to promote and enhance her community and Mississippi destination brand experience thereby increasing visitor spending for the sustainable economic growth and quality of life for her community and her state.
As one of only three Certified Destination Management Executives in Mississippi, she has contributed to the advancement of Mississippi tourism at the local, state and international level, serving as CEO and Executive Director of her DMO since 2011, and from May 2017-May 2018, serving as Mississippi Tourism Association President.
