One woman was hospitalized and a man jailed after he allegedly intentionally hit her with an all-terrain vehicle over the weekend.
Henry Lee Mayfield Jr., 25, of 3610 W. Lindsey Ferry Road, has been charged with leaving the scene with injuries.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hit-and-run Sunday afternoon, where a woman said she was standing by Longstreet Road when she spotted an ATV coming toward her. The victim said she stepped off the side of the road into a ditch and the vehicle veered off the road and hit her.
The victim said she believed Mayfield hit her intentionally, according to a LCSO incident report. She added Mayfield then got off his ATV and began to drag her toward her vehicle, only to let her go when her daughter ran out of the house to check on her.
The victim’s daughter told investigators Mayfield offered to help get the victim into the house but the daughter declined.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where she underwent surgery for an internal injury to her liver.
Mayfield is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
