An Artesia man was arrested earlier this week for reportedly molesting a child.
George B. Williams, 62, of 119 Lehmberg St. in Artesia was taken into custody June 24 after Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call from 171 Lehmberg St., Artesia. According to court records, the call came from Williams’ girlfriend.
The individual who made the report told deputies upon their arrival that she has seen George engaging in sexual acts with a child under 2 on Saturday at about 9 p.m.
The complainant said she had to wait to make the call because she did not have access to a telephone. On Sunday, she used a neighbor’s phone.
According to the report, Williams’ girlfriend said she told Williams to stop when she witnessed him performing sexual acts on the child. The report states Williams did not stop and threatened to kill the girlfriend.
Williams has been charged with touching a child for lustful purposes. His bond is set at $10,000, and he is still in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
