Columbus police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting into an occupied house last month.
Cheyterian Smith, 25, of Columbus, faces one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. Smith is accused of firing into a house on 15th Avenue North on April 16.
Smith and the victim knew each other, the press release said. No one was injured in the shooting.
CPD Chief Fred Shelton told The Dispatch Smith is a suspect in at least two other shootings and he is expected to face additional charges.
At the time of his arrest, Smith was out of jail on $50,000 circuit court bond for a 2017 indictment for aggravated assault. Police arrested Smith in September 2016 after he allegedly shot a family member in the leg at his home on 23rd North Street.
Smith was charged with aggravated domestic violence. The victim’s injuries were non life-threatening.
Smith was denied bond for the April shooting because of his current circuit bond. He is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
