Officers with Columbus Police Department are searching for a person of interest in a weekend aggravated assault.
A CPD press release identified Vershawn Orlando Williams, 19, of Columbus as possibly being involved in a shooting on Eighth Avenue North Saturday. The victim, who has not cooperated with police, was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with non life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the victim and suspect were in “a previous altercation” that led to the shooting Saturday.
Williams is also wanted on two other outstanding felony warrants, the press release said. He was arrested in June 2017 for an armed robbery but has not been indicted according to Lowndes County Circuit Court records.
Investigators are also asking the public for help identifying two black males believed to have been involved in the incident, the release said. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
