The suspect in a murder near Longview off Highway 12 has been charged and released from Oktibbeha County Jail.
James Nixon, 32, of Starkville, was arrested Saturday for the death of 26-year-old Shawn Stricklin, of Ackerman. Stricklin’s body was discovered Saturday off Highway 12. Oktibbeha County Deputy Coroner Billy Miller pronounced Stricklin dead at noon.
Nixon was charged with murder and released from jail on $100,000 bond, jail personnel confirmed.
Stricklin’s body was discovered after Mississippi Highway Patrol officers responded to a call about a car accident and instead found Stricklin with a gunshot wound. Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the case.
MBI spokesperson Warren Strain did not release further details on the investigation over the weekend and did not answer calls from The Dispatch by press time today.
