Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle welcomes new general invasive cardiologist Julius Kato, DO to its medical staff. He is in practice at Baptist Medical Group Columbus Cardiovascular Care, 520 Willowbrook Rd., Columbus, Miss., 662-240-1412. Kato also plans to open a practice in Starkville in the near future
Kato joined the hospital staff in March 2018 from St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. He received his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed a residency in internal medicine at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Mich. He also completed a fellowship in invasive and non-invasive cardiology at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey and a cardiology fellowship at Deborah Heart and Lung Center.
At St. Rita’s he served as medical director of the chest pain center; director of cardiac rehab; and served a two-year term as chairman of the cardiology department. He brings not only extensive cardiology experience but also a strong quality background to Baptist. He was involved with the development, proposals and procedures for cardiac care, quality assurance, hypothermia therapy in cardiac arrest patients, and the development of services to improve care in cardiology at St. Rita’s. He also helped develop an observation center for chest pain to help reduce the length of stay and provide quality care for chest pain patients. Kato also served as an associate professor of cardiology at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine for the past 10 years.
He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and internal medicine by the American College of Osteopathic Internist and is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Osteopathic Internist, the American Osteopathic Association and the Board of Medical Examiners.
Kato and his wife Jill live in Columbus. The couple has one daughter who is a senior at Vanderbilt University. In his free time he enjoys jogging, tennis, biking and swimming.
