A man accused of beating a woman so severely that she was hospitalized with a ruptured spleen has been arrested.
Gary Scott Peeks, 49, of 1156 Harrison Road, was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault Friday. Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, along with Alabama authorities, arrested him at a house in Pickens County,
Deputies had been searching for Peeks all month after he allegedly attacked a woman at a residence on Blalock Road on March 5. According to the victim, he threatened to kill her and kicked her in the ribs until her spleen ruptured. She was able to run out of the residence while he was distracted and call 911. She then collapsed in some nearby woods where deputies found her a few minutes later. She was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where she underwent surgery.
Peeks is currently in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $10,000.
