Authorities in Lowndes County and Alabama are searching for a man accused of beating a woman so severely she is having surgery today.
Gary Scott Peeks of Fernbank Road in Millport, Alabama, is the suspect in an aggravated assault that occurred just off Blalock Road at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to Major Billy Wood of Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Woods said Peeks, a white male, is 49.
According to the victim, she and Peeks had been in a residence on Blalock Road when he attacked her, kicked her in the ribs and threatened to kill her. She said she ran out of the house when he became distracted thinking a car was turning into the driveway. The victim called 911 before she collapsed in the woods where deputies found her.
An ambulance took the victim to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Among her injuries were a ruptured spleen. Wood said deputies didn’t know her status but said she was scheduled to undergo surgery this morning.
Deputies are still searching for Peeks, who authorities believe may be in Alabama. Lamar County Sheriff’s Office deputies are also on the lookout for him.
