A multi-use development is in the works for the Cotton District area in Starkville.
The former gas station property directly across from Bulldog Burger Company, which was previously used as an extra parking lot for the restaurant, has been demolished to make way for a “huge multi-development facility” complete with apartments, retail space and a multi-story parking garage, according to city sources.
Buddy Sanders, Starkville community development director, said the project manager is Jackson Wallace, who is the president and chief operations officer for Integrated Multifamily Services.
The Northport, Alabama-based company specializes in developing and managing multi-family properties across the Southeast, including three upscale apartment complexes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, two in Statesboro, Georgia, and one in Louisiana.
Wallace did not respond to calls from The Dispatch.
Let’s talk about chicken salad for a minute, because a Chicken Salad Chick will also be opening their doors in Starkville.
Starkville resident and Cappe’s Steak and Seafood Owner Eric Hallberg is partnering with Cameron and Diana Parker to bring the franchise to Starkville.
Chicken Salad Chick was originally founded in Auburn, Alabama in 2008. Since then, more than 60 franchise restaurants have opened across the Southeast, including a new location in Flowood.
Hallberg has not yet announced the location and opening date.
Now, let’s take a look at Columbus.
At the beginning of the year, I told you Back Yard Burgers was reopening at the same location that shut down in October 2016.
On Monday, the burger joint is reopening under new, experienced ownership.
Josh Powell, who also owns and operates four other Back Yard Burgers locations in Mississippi, is bringing the restaurant back to Columbus.
Powell said Columbus is a great city for the restaurant, and the location, 1913 Highway 45 N right in front of Walmart, is the ideal place to reopen.
In addition, he said he plans to hire about 25 employees.
State Urgent Care in Starkville is expanding.
The clinic, located at 521 South Montgomery St. in the Tower Plaza, plans to add 2,000 square feet of space, which will ultimately allow for more patients to be treated.
The additions are expected to be complete by June.
