The Baldor Electric Company, including the Columbus facility, is rebranding to ABB Electric Company.
Baldor has been a member of the ABB Group for the past seven years. Beginning March 1, Baldor Electric and ABB will begin presenting themselves as one company.
Baldor employs more than 1,500 people across Mississippi — including Southaven, Senatobia, Crystal Springs, and Columbus — and will continue to serve those areas after the branding change.
The primary changes customers and employees will see is a change of signage, Jim Creevy, ABB vice president of government relations, said in a company release.
“ABB remains committed to Mississippi and the United States,” Creevy said. “The integration of Baldor Electric Company and ABB over the past seven years has been beneficial to Baldor customers and employees.”
Moving on, a beauty store is opening a second location in Starkville.
In January, Matt Bogue, vice president of Dutch Oil Company, announced that a space behind the Sprint Mart at the corner of Highway 182 and Jackson Street was being renovated for retail space.
The space undergoing renovations used to be home to Family Dollar, which opened a new location right across the street. Once renovations are complete, Sun Beauty Supply will open its second Starkville location. Sun Beauty Supply is a cosmetics, perfume and beauty supply store. It also sells a variety of wigs.
Dutch Oil Company will still own the retail space, and the beauty supply store will lease the building.
The other location in Starkville is located at 117 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and operates Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.
Other business:
Back in December, I said a convenience store was being opened in Starkville at the corner of Lynn Lane and Louisville Street. Construction is still going on at the site.
However, Scott Farmer with Farmer Commercial Properties, confirmed that another convenience store was planned for a section of land he sold at the corner of Highway 182 and Stark Road. The land was sold to Madison-based The SB Group, who is also opening the store being built on Louisville Street. The SB Group did not respond to calls from The Dispatch.
