The Dispatch took home 10 awards for advertising — half of them first place finishes — in the Mississippi Press Association’s 2017 Better Newspaper Contest.
MPA’s award luncheon was held Saturday in Jackson.
Graphic designer Jackie Taylor won a handful of first place awards, including best black and white retail advertisement; black and white healthcare advertisement; and black and white small space advertisement.
She also placed second in color service advertisements and took home both second and third place awards for the series of ads category.
Graphic designer Kelly Ervin won first place in color retail advertisements for the ad “The Plant Farm” and third place in color institutional advertisements for her Unity Picnic ad.
Both Taylor and Ervin won first place in the Theme Page category for their “HOPE/Breast Cancer Awareness” ad page.
The Dispatch as a whole placed third in editorial special sections for its special section “Salute To Veterans” which ran in the Nov. 5, 2017 edition.
Dispatch publisher Peter Imes said he was proud of the job both designers have done at The Dispatch.
“Jackie and Kelly do an incredible job making sure our advertising clients’ ads get the best treatment,” Imes said. “These awards are symbolic of the way they kill it at their job every day.”
The Dispatch competed with other daily newspapers with circulation above 9,000.
