A suspect in a shooting on Tabernacle Road that sent one person to the hospital in July was taken into custody in Tennessee and now behind bars in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
According to a press release from Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Lonnell Thompson Jr., 21, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was one of at least two suspects accused of breaking into a Tabernacle Road home on July 19, 2017. During the home invasion, one person was shot multiple times and had to be taken to a Jackson hospital for treatment.
Investigators in Rutherford County, Tennessee took Thompson into custody Thursday and notified LCSO, the press release said. LCSO deputies brought Thompson back to Lowndes County where he has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of armed robbery and a string of misdemeanor failure to appear charges.
Authorities previously told The Dispatch three black males broke into the home where they attacked three people — two residents and the shooting victim, who was visiting the home. Authorities said the suspects were all dressed in black and camouflage and had their faces covered during the break-in.
The press release said there are six total victims connected to the case.
Thompson is the second suspect to be arrested in case. In the week following the shooting, investigators located Tommie Deloach, 21, at a hotel in Murfreesboror, Tennessee. He is currently being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $300,000 bond for two counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and fugitive from justice.
The press release also identified the shooting victim as Brian Bishop, 36, of 313 Marshall Drive, who was arrested last week for allegedly biting a narcotics officer during a drug arrest Thursday. Bishop was charged with felony aggravated assault on a police officer, and the narcotics officer had to have stitches in his hand.
Bishop is still in custody at Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office on $26,261, including misdemeanor charges. Thompson’s felony bond is $600,000.
Investigators said they do not believe the July home invasion was random and that the victims and suspects are involved in drug activity. Authorities expect more arrests to follow and are asking anyone with information to contact LCSO investigators at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
