Two suspects found themselves behind bars after authorities say a Steens woman gave birth to a child addicted to drugs.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Holly O’Callaghan, 38, at her 8061 Highway 12 East, No. 1, home after executing a warrant on Wednesday. They also arrested Gary Shaw, 33, of 118 Stewart Ave. in Columbus, who was at O’Callaghan’s home when authorities arrived, according to Chief Deputy Marc Miley.
Miley said O’Callaghan gave birth to a child in July, and the Department of Human Services immediately took custody.
When deputies arrived at her home Wednesday to arrest her, neither she nor Shaw would come to the door, Miley said. Deputies heard Shaw and O’Callaghan arguing from inside and yelled that if someone didn’t answer the door, everyone in the house could be arrested.
O’Callaghan is charged with one count of child endangerment. Her bond has been set at $2,500.
Shaw has been charged with hindering prosecution. His bond has been set at $1,500.
Both have been released from custody.
