One of the suspects accused in a 2014 aggravated assault outside a West Point Huddle House is scheduled to appear in court this week.
Kent Davis, 26, of Okolona, is one of three suspects indicted in the beating of Ralph Weems, of Clay County, on Aug. 23, 2014. His trial is slated to begin today in Clay County Circuit Court.
Weems was found unresponsive in the parking lot of the Huddle House on Highway 45 Alternate at about 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 23. A witness told The Associated Press at the time of the attack that multiple people attacked him and Weems. The beating left Weems in a coma for a time at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Marquavious McMillian, 34, of Aberdeen, and Courtez McMillian, 25, of Okolona, were also indicted in the assault. Last spring, Courtez pleaded guilty to the assault and was sentenced to seven years in prison, with five years and eight months suspended. Courtez was given credit for time served, meaning he was released the day of sentencing and is currently serving five years of post release supervision, according to circuit court records.
The Dispatch could not reach Davis’ attorney, Collen Hudson of Columbus, by press time.
