A Columbus man is in jail for aggravated assault after allegedly trying to stab another man during a dispute over a truck.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Lee McCranie, 40, of 1317 Land Road, Lot 35, Thursday afternoon at his home. Chief Deputy Marc Miley said McCranie had borrowed an acquaintance’s pickup last week, and the dispute occurred when the acquaintance showed up at McCranie’s home Thursday to get it. The truck reportedly belonged to the acquaintance’s sister.
The acquaintance, a 30-year-old man from Starkville, told deputies he arrived at McCranie’s home to find McCranie and a woman sitting in his truck smoking methamphetamines, Miley said. The victim ordered the two out of the truck.
McCranie allegedly went into his house and came back outside with a knife and attempted to cut the victim’s chest and stab him in the stomach. The victim grabbed the knife’s blade, cutting his hands.
The police report filed on the incident did not say how serious the victim’s injuries were.
McCranie’s bond had not been set as of Friday afternoon.
