A Brookwood, Alabama, man is out on bond in a case where he is accused of molesting a child younger than 10-years-old.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Scott Sudduth, 45, last week after receiving a report he molested a child in the New Hope area in 2011. He is charged with one count of touching a child for lustful purposes. He was released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center after posting $10,000 bond.
Police affidavits are unclear as to whether Sudduth allegedly molested the victim once or multiple times, but at least one incident occurred at a New Hope residence, LCSO Detective Tony Cooper said.
Cooper said Sudduth’s victim recently told her parents what happened, and her parents reported the crime to LCSO.
District Attorney Scott Colom did not speak to this case but said generally it is not uncommon for child victims of some sort of sexual abuse to wait “weeks, months or years” before reporting the abuse, because of shame or because they don’t know how to respond to what happened.
“Basically at that age, they don’t know what to do,” Colom said.
