An armed robbery suspect broke out of Lowndes County Adult Detention Center Saturday.
Delvin Moore, 29, escaped from jail at about 8:30 p.m. after manipulating a door mechanical lock system, Capt. Ryan Rickert told The Dispatch.
Columbus police arrested Moore for an alleged armed robbery early Friday morning at the Sprint Mart at Highway 69 and Yorkville Road. He was also convicted of a 2013 armed robbery and burglary of an automobile in 2006.
Authorities say Moore is suspected in multiple armed robberies over the past year.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus police are “actively searching hard” for Moore, LCSO Chief Deputy Marc Miley said late Saturday night. He said Moore, a black male, was wearing a maroon shirt at the time of his escape.
“We’re still reviewing all the security footage, and (exactly how he escaped) will be part of the investigation,” Miley said. “Our main focus right now is finding him.”
Miley said anyone with information on Moore’s whereabouts should call LCSO at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151.
