This weekend, the Mississippi Horse Park will host the sixth Annual Lucky Dog Barrel Race.
The event, sanctioned through the Better Barrel Races Association and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, opens tonight from 4-11 p.m. It will continue from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Public admission is free, and concessions will be available.
Last year, the barrel race drew 2,220 entries and doled out $77,237 in winnings to contestants.
This year, the Horse Park has sold 416 stalls and 133 RV paces, and had to set up 78 temporary stalls to accommodate the event’s growth this year.
“There was an instant connection between the Mississippi Horse Park and Lucky Dog Productions when we began working together six years ago,” Horse Park manager Bricklee Miller said. “The growth of this event is proof of what can be accomplished when you have both a facility and producer invested in a quality event.”
