Authorities have released the name of the suspect in a Sunday morning stabbing.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department took Jordan Hartzell, 27, of 63 Tiffany Lane, into custody near Holly Hills Road Sunday after he allegedly stabbed two people in a car on the way to Vibrant Church at about 11 a.m. Hartzell has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, along with giving false information to police, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia in the incident, Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton said.
Hartzell was a passenger in the vehicle with five other people on the way to church when an argument broke out, according to a CPD press release. Hartzell allegedly then stabbed two other passengers with a knife. He then got out of the car, began to flee on foot and was arrested.
Private vehicles took both victims — a 22-year-old male friend of Hartzell’s and a 15-year-old female relative — to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where they were treated and released.
Hartzell is on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for three previous felony convictions in Lowndes County, including a burglary charge from 2008 and two drug charges from 2010.
He was initially sentenced to eight years in MDOC for the burglary charge in 2007, but the sentenced was reduced to five years probation after he completed a Regimented Inmate Discipline program in 2008. However, the suspended sentence was revoked in 2009 after he was arrested on drug charges. He was sentenced to six years in MDOC in 2010 for possession of methamphetamines and possession of precursor with intent to manufacture.
Hartzell is being held without bond in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
