A Columbus man is in police custody after allegedly choking his girlfriend and possibly causing her to drive a U-Haul van into the front of his house.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department arrested Kenneth Spencer Jr., 26, of 607 Peach St., Wednesday evening after receiving a call that the U-Haul van had been driven into the front of his residence, according to a press release from CPD.
Officers found Spencer walking in the area before arriving at the house. He told officers he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument, during which he choked her and told her he wanted to break up. He then walked into the house and “approximately three seconds later,” his girlfriend drove the van into it.
Shortly thereafter, officers talked to the girlfriend, who said she had been in the vehicle when Spencer choked her and that his choking her had caused her to drive the U-Haul into the house.
Spencer was charged with domestic violence-aggravated assault and misdemeanor failure to appear. His bond was set at $10,562.50. He is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
City Public Information Officer Joe Dillon said officers are still unclear on what exactly transpired. He added neither party was injured in the incident.
