A baby missing since Tuesday has been found safe with his grandparents in Memphis.
Colton Ray-Harris, five months, was last seen in Columbus Tuesday with a friend of his mother. Authorities with the Columbus Police Department issued a statement asking the public to help look for them earlier this week.
Authorities did not issue an Amber Alert in the case.
The baby’s mother learned her son was with her mother in Memphis, which CPD confirmed with the Memphis Police Department on Thursday.
City Public Information Officer Joe Dillon said a “misunderstanding” spurred the missing baby report. The child’s mother had left her son in the care of family friend, Donna Morton, and gave her some money to go shopping. Morton apparently misunderstood where she was supposed to meet Ray-Harris’ mother to return the child, Dillon added.
Morton had taken Ray-Harris shopping in the past, Dillon said, adding the baby was never in any danger. No charges have been filed against Morton.
