A former Starkville Academy teacher will serve one year in prison after pleading guilty to two computer luring charges.
Jody Wayne Britt, 31, of Madison, was sentenced to a combined six years in Mississippi Department of Corrections custody, with four years suspended. He will serve two one-year sentences concurrently.
Britt was also ordered to pay a combined $1,000 in fines, register as a sex offender and serve four years of probation after his release.
During the post-release supervision period, Judge Jim Kitchens ordered that Britt not have contact with his accusers, or any other minors, except for his own child.
An Oktibbeha County grand jury indicted Britt on the two counts and an additional count of child exploitation in July after two students alleged the former teacher and coach sent them multiple sexually explicit messages last year and asked the minors to send him pornographic images of themselves.
That indictment came after a grand jury handed down two counts of enticing minors “to meet with him for the purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct,” but those charges were retired by the district attorney’s office so the victims could avoid testifying against Britt, Assistant District Attorney Scott Rogillio said in October.
At the time of his arrest, Britt had left Starkville Academy for a teaching position with the Madison County School District.
