A two-pickup accident Monday on Highway 50 sent one person to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with minor injuries.
The accident occurred a little before 3 p.m. A 1996 GMC Sierra collided with a 1994 Chevrolet pickup attempting to turn left into a private driveway on Highway 50, according to a press release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Both vehicles had been driving east on Highway 50. The accident happened when the GMC tried to pass the Chevrolet after the Chevrolet slowed to turn.
The Chevrolet’s driver, Roger S. Rea, 54, of Steens, was charged at the scene with driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance, authorities said. Rea was transported to BMH for further treatment and was later taken into custody by the Columbus Police Department. Police did not tell The Dispatch by press time what the warrants were for.
The driver of the GMC, Robert E. Gardner, 67, of Ethelsville, Alabama, was uninjured, as was his passenger, Arthur Guyton.
MHP is still investigating the accident.
