Golden Triangle residents should prepare for the possibility of severe weather, including tornadoes, today, according to National Weather Service officials.
A “strong, low pressure” system moving from northern Louisiana into southern Arkansas is expected to bring showers, thunderstorms, hail and damaging winds to the Golden Triangle this afternoon and into the evening, according to David Cox, a NWS meteorologist.
While the event is predicted to be the strongest further south, near the Interstate 20 corridor, Cox said tornadoes are “definitely a possibility,” for the area.
Beginning around noon, the storm system is expected to stay into the night and move out from the area around midnight.
“There’s some indication it may linger longer, but probably the main window is between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. or so,” Cox said.
He advised Golden Triangle residents to have emergency preparations in place in case of a watch or warning.
“Make sure to have means to get weather information, and making sure the phone is good to turn on. Have a plan in place,” Cox said.
