A Columbus child was struck by a car while riding a bicycle near Seventh Street North on Saturday.
The 12-year-old boy suffered multiple fractures in the incident, which happened about 1 p.m. Saturday, according to the Columbus Police Department.
Initially, the child was treated at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. However, Fred Shelton, interim CPD chief, told The Dispatch Saturday evening that the child was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for further treatment.
No update on his status was available at press time. He is not in critical condition, according to Shelton.
Authorities say the boy was riding his bicycle in front of First Baptist Church in downtown Columbus when he was hit.
The driver said the boy came out from between two parked cars and that she did not see him.
CPD’s Twitter account posted after the incident that the boy has a fractured arm and leg.
