The Columbus Police Department is asking the community to pledge money for a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects who robbed a 10th Avenue South home in Columbus on the night of Jan. 11.
During the incident, Freddie Robinson, 25, was shot and later died.
At least one anonymous business has already pledged $500. Fred Shelton, the interim CPD chief, plans to advertise the reward on billboards donated by businesses in the Golden Triangle.
Golden Triangle CrimeStoppers also offers rewards for citizens with anonymous tips that lead to arrests — the more serious the crime, the larger the reward, according to coordinator Kevin Forrester. CrimeStoppers offers rewards of up to $1,000.
“Capital murder is one of the crimes that would be up closer to the $1,000 mark,” Forrester said, referring to the Jan. 11 robbery and murder.
