A unique shop has opened in Starkville. It’s called Pillows Adorned.
What they offer are pillows emblazoned with unique designs created by Tara Panser, the business’ owner.
Panser is a Golden Triangle native (born at Columbus Air Force Base Hospital) and U.S. Navy veteran living in Starkville. She has an interesting story. She was introduced to sewing by her mother and grandmother. While a student at Starkville High School, though, she took a vocational course based around sewing and developed a love for it.
“After high school,” she said, “I never stopped sewing.”
Pillows Adorned opened in December on Etsy, an e-commerce website focused on selling handmade or vintage items and supplies. Panser plans to open a brick-and-mortar store later this year.
Customers can visit Pillows Adorned at etsy.com/shop/1pillowsadornedllc. What you will find are 66 pillows, each with a separate design.
“We create and print all of our designs by hand,” Panser said.
Customers can choose a pillow’s fabric (satin, muslin or broadcloth), color, shape (square, heart, circle, rectangle), decorations (sequin, ribbons, bows, buttons, etc.) design and message (if desired).
Panser said she can customize pillows for holidays, themes or occasions (wedding, graduation, anniversary, baby shower, etc.).
Orders can be shipped anywhere in the U.S.
Pillows Adorned employs two people.

Moving on.
WHEREhouse Dance Company has a new home in Columbus.
If you’ll remember, the dance company, which opened in 2013, moved from 404 Main St. (its original location) to 309 Main St. (the old Elks Lodge) in August.
In late November, the Columbus-Lowndes Convention & Visitors Bureau voted to purchase the old Elks Lodge and eventually turn it into a child-focused discovery center.
Kristen Buntin, the dance company’s owner, immediately began looking for a new home for her business. She found one at The Shops at Brickerton. The studio will be located at 147 Brickyard Road, right next to Corner Bakery.
The WHEREhouse Dance Company will occupy two separate spaces there that are being renovated: a 2,500 square foot area for larger classes and a 1,250 square foot area for younger, smaller classes.
The grand opening is Saturday.
Buntin said she is currently registering students for the upcoming semester. Classes begin Jan. 11.
Anyone who would like to register can call 662-549-7922 or visit The Shops at Brickerton location between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. beginning Thursday.
