Seven people have applied for two open municipal court positions, according to Columbus Human Resources Director Pat Mitchell.
The city is seeking to fill its municipal judge and city prosecutor positions after both opened as a result of Scott Colom’s victory in the 16th Circuit District Attorney election.
Colom, who served as city prosecutor since 2013, submitted his resignation shortly after the election. He tapped municipal judge Marc Amos shortly after to join his staff as an assistant district attorney.
Amos submitted his resignation, effective Dec. 31. He’s worked as a municipal judge since 2010.
The city stopped taking applications for both positions last week. Mitchell said four candidates applied for the prosecutor position and three applied for the judge job.
Both jobs are part time. Mitchell said the city prosecutor position pays $25,751.70 and the judge position pays $24,152.47.
The city did not release applicants’ names Monday.
Mitchel said she, Mayor Robert Smith, chief operations officer David Armstrong and perhaps two councilmen will interview candidates and present a recommendation to the full council. No hiring timeline has yet been established.
