An inmate at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman was killed by a fellow inmate this morning, according to a release by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Carlos Jack, 43, was pronounced dead at the prison hospital shortly after 10 a.m., approximately one hour after the assault occurred.
Jack was stabbed with a homemade shank by fellow 35-year-old inmate, Myran Shanks, according to the release.
Jack was serving a 25-year sentence for armed robbery in Lowndes County.
No other inmates were involved and no other injuries were reported, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing.
