Scott Colom announced on Tuesday several more hires who will join his staff when he takes over the District Attorney’s office in January.
Colom has hired attorneys Scott Rogillio, Lindsay Clemons, P. Trina Davidson-Brooks and Armstrong Walters as assistant district attorneys. He also has hired Maurice Johnson as an investigator for the D.A.’s office. The announcements were made via the Facebook page, “Scott Colom for District Attorney.”
In November, Colom announced the hire of municipal judge Marc Amos as one of his assistant district attorneys.
Three of Colom’s hires — Clemons, Johnson and Rogillio — already work in the D.A. office under Forrest Allgood, who Colom defeated in the November election.
Colom previously said he’d like to retain some of Allgood’s staff as he transitions into office. On Tuesday, he told The Dispatch he still believes continuity is important.
“It was important to me to have a smooth transition because next year I have to hit the ground running,” Colom said. “I also wanted to make sure I have people who are confident and willing to get behind the vision I ran on for the district attorney’s office. Scott and Lindsay were excited about working with me toward that vision.”
Overall, Colom said he’s very pleased with the new hires. He said he hopes to complete his staff — adding another investigator and other staff — by Dec. 20.
“A lot of respected lawyers applied,” he said. “I couldn’t hire everyone, but I tried to select a diverse group, in gender, racially and geographically, who were experienced and excited about working toward my vision for the office.”
Rogillio has worked as an assistant district attorney from 1994-2001 and 2004-2015 in four Mississippi circuit court districts. He also served as an associate attorney for the Florence-based Ringer Law firm from 1991-94.
Clemons has served as an assistant district attorney in District 16 for eight years.
Davdison-Brooks currently serves as West Point’s city prosecutor and as an attorney advisor for the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review in Tupelo. She also has maintained a private practice for several years and worked represented clients in personal injury, criminal law, family law and workers compensation.
Walters has eight years as an assistant district attorney. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve from 1981-82 and the Mississippi Army National Guard from 1982-89.
