Columbus Municipal School District superintendent Dr. Philip Hickman has been named to a statewide board that aims to make educators more effective.
The Mississippi Department of Education Educator Leader and Effectiveness Steering Committee will review and make adjustments to Mississippi’s current system of evaluating school staff performance.
The group will observe and alter the strategies for the Mississippi teacher evaluation system, the principal evaluation and specialist evaluation, examining the impact of speech pathologists and counselors, according to MDE.
The committee will meet five times in Flowood beginning November 9.
Hickman called the appointment “an opportunity to help set a great direction for the state.”
