Hamilton School students were dismissed at noon today after threats of violence were received via social media.
School officials, speaking with The Dispatch about 11:35 a.m. today, said they were working to get students off of campus and home safely.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said the decision was made after someone on social media threatened to “shoot up the school.”
“We have a threat sent to us that they’re going to be coming in this afternoon with AK-47s, shooting up the school and killing the kids and teachers,” Cantrell said. “We’re just up here to make things safer. We hate to have to do this.”
Amory Police Department said on Twitter that it is keeping in touch with Monroe County Sheriff’s Department on the matter. The incident has not affected Amory City Schools.
