COLUMBUS — The final stretch of Highway 45 being transformed to four-lanes in Lowndes County will open today.
WTVA-TV reports the Mississippi Department of Transportation says it will open the stretch from Carson Road to four miles south of Highway 82 around 9 a.m.
Crews will still be on the highway for the next few weeks to complete the project.
Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert says the opening is a big step in increasing safety and mobility through the region.
When the stretch opens, Highway 45 will be four-laned from the Tennessee state line to the Alabama state line.
