Daniel Rayfield of the Prairie Land Water Association addressed the Lowndes County School District board Friday about a tentative new sewage project on the West Lowndes campus.
He estimated it would cost about $238,000 to install a new pumping station in the area. This would provide new sewage lines for West Lowndes schools and the greater area.
“That’s the total construction cost and estimate to install the portion and the pumping station,” Rayfield said.
There is a base sewage cost of $1,500 a month, and an additional $1,600 to run sewage at West Lowndes and the alternative school.
Rayfield said that if the board wants to go through with the plan, they would start taking bids in August 2016.
Trustee Jacqueline Gray made a motion that LCSD superintendent Lynn Wright meet with Prairie Land Water engineers to discuss the project further. The motion passed unanimously.
Construction updates
Architect Joey Henderson provided the board with a monthly update on the districts many ongoing construction projects.
The field house at New Hope High School was completed July 27. Henderson said they are only waiting on the lockers, which have been caught in the crossfire of a longshoreman strike on the west coast. He expects the lockers to arrive by the end of this month.
“At Caledonia Elementary, about 30 percent of the slab has been poured,” Henderson said. “Walls are starting to go up. We’ve got brick and exterior walls selected.”
The field house at Caledonia High School is also underway.
Henderson said he has been continuing to work with East Mississippi Community College on program information for the career-technical center. The board also called Henderson into executive session to discuss a land purchase for the $11 million centralized center, but no action was taken.
The board recessed its meeting until Tuesday at noon.
