WEST POINT – Town residents will be paying higher utility bills this fall.
The West Point Board of Selectmen approved the increases late last month.
Residential water inside the city limits will increase from $23 to $30 for the first 2,000 gallons used. Commercial water will increase from $27 to $30 for the first 2,000 gallons used. Rates outside the limits and more than 2,000 will remain the same as last year.
Residential sewer rates will increase from $17 for the first 2,000 gallons to $21. Over 2,000 gallons will increase from $3 to $3.10. Commercial rates will remain the same.
Water and sewage rate hikes will go into effect after the July billing cycle, according to chief administrative officer Randy Jones.
Electric rates will rise .15 percent, or approximately $18.50, over the course of the calender year. The Tennessee Valley Public Power Association, the electricity provider for northern Mississippi, increased its wholesale rates in 2014.
The electricity rate increase will go into effect Oct. 1, Jones said.
