LAUREL — Bond has been set at $20,000 for a Jones County man who allegedly claimed to have found a lost dog and wanted a reward.
Sheriff’s Department Major Jamie Tedford tells WDAM-TV of Laurel 19-year-old Troy J. Cooley is charged with two counts of fraud by electric device. It is unknown if he has an attorney.
Tedford says Cooley was arrested Wednesday after allegedly texting the owner of a lost dog and asking for money. The owner had posted on Facebook that he had lost his dog
Tedford says deputies wrapped up $150 and placed it in a garbage can outside a restaurant as the owner had been directed.
Tedford says Cooley was arrested when he showed up at the restaurant.
Tedford says Cooley did not have the dog.
