ESCATAWPA — Two Mississippi men helped to rescue a 102-year-old neighbor and her dogs from a fire at her home.
WLOX-TV reports Octavius Kirkland and Matthew Taylor entered a burning home in Escatawpa early Tuesday morning after a man staying at the home ran over and said his grandmother was trapped inside. Kirkland and Taylor went inside and carried the woman out of the home. They returned to save two dogs, even grabbing a bag of dog food to feed them.
The woman is in good condition at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. Her grandson was treated and released.
Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
