MCCOMB — Authorities say a 35-year-old man shot and killed by a Pike County deputy tried to run down the deputy with an ATV.
County Coroner Percy Pittman says Troy Ray Boyd died Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Mark Shepherd tells The Clarion-Ledger the incident began when deputies responded to a call about a man on a 4-wheeler “acting bizarre.”
When deputies made contact the man, Shepherd say he attempted to run over one of them.
He said the deputy fired his weapon, and man went a ways down the road and wrecked.
Pittman said Boyd died at the scene. He said it is not clear if Boyd died of the gunshot wound or the injuries from the wreck.
