The nation will learn about Columbus this weekend.
At least, everyone who watches public broadcasting will.
“Main Street: Columbus, MS” will air on PBS NewsHour Weekend at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on WMPN, the local outlet for Public Broadcasting Services.
“Main Street” is a series hosted by PBS reporter John Larson that examines American towns. Larson and his production crew were in Columbus in January to produce and report the segment.
According to NewsHour Weekend associate producer Tracy Wholf, who was part of the crew who came to Columbus, the segment will be nine minutes long.
“We shot the segment over four days in mid-January and we do include the MLK festivities in the piece, as well as scenes from EMCC, PACCAR, Airbus and the Main Street area,” Wholf said.
The segment will focus on the recent industrial development in the area and examine who benefits from these new manufactures.
The segment will be available online at pbs.org following the broadcast.
