WEST POINT — The police department has made two arrests in connection with a Dec. 19 shooting that left two men injured at an apartment complex.
Two 16-year-olds — Tommie Earl Malone of 2996 Railroad St., and Tyron Cortez Coleman of H-7 Town Creed Apartments — were arrested Wednesday. The two will be charged as adults for armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to authorities.
The names of the victims, both of whom suffered from gun-shot wounds, have not been released. The shooting happened around 11 p.m. at the Point Place Apartment complex on North Forest Street.
According to West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley, the investigation into the incident continues.
“So far we have learned that a group of individuals was involved in this incident and multiple shots were fired in the parking lot of the apartment complex,” Brinkley said in a statement. “This investigation is still ongoing and we anticipate more arrests.”
At least one of the alleged assailants was injured in the incident but police are not saying if that person was among the two that were arrested or who fired the shot that injured him.
Bond was set for both suspects at $250,000. Both are being held at the Clay County Detention Center.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244.
