JACKSON — Republican Charles “Chuck” Younger of Columbus is the newest member of the Mississippi Senate.
Younger took his oath of office Friday in the Senate chamber at the state Capitol. Several relatives and a few other senators watched as Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves administered the oath of office.
Younger won a special election runoff Nov. 25 in District 17, which is entirely in Lowndes County. He will serve the final year of a term started by Republican Sen. Terry Brown of Columbus, who died in September. The three-month legislative session begins in early January.
Younger has farmed and ranched in Lowndes and Monroe counties for more than 30 years.
