The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Alliance and Operations program for Mississippi is holding a workshop in Columbus on Wednesday.
The workshop is for developers, elected officials, planning districts, Main Street executives and anyone who can benefit from learning how to recruit retail, according to Nancy Carpenter, executive director for the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The event will begin with registration from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. at the Rosenzweig Arts Center in Columbus.
According to Carpenter, an attorney will speak about what state laws allow in the way of incentives, a representative from TVA who will talk about the tools they offer communities for retail recruitment and a developer who will talk about things a city can do to prepare for retail. There will also be a presentation on what another community is doing to market its downtown buildings.
Lacy Beasley, vice president of Business Development with Retail Strategies from Birmingham, will talk at lunch about what particular retail is likely to come to Mississippi.
Visit Columbus is assisting in sponsoring the workshop.
