CLAY COUNTY — Authorities have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for illegal spice distribution.
Freddie Hampton, 55, of 720 Smith St., was arrested Thursday in a joint operation between Clay County Sheriff’s Department, West Point Police Department and Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Hampton was charged with possession of a controlled substance after law enforcement discovered 11 bags of synthetic marijuana in his possession. The 11 bags are equivalent to 44 grams, authorizes said.
The chemicals used to make spice have been classified as a schedule I narcotic by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The sale of spice is a felony charge.
Spice is also known as K2, fake weed and Yucatan Fire. It may also be labeled as herbal incense.
Hampton was also charged with sale of cocaine.
King Jamarr Lenoir, 26, of 828 Hill St., was also arrested in the incident and charged with possession of cocaine.
Hampton and Hill are in the custody of the Clay County Detention Center awaiting bond.
